A mathematical analysis of the cumulus pricing scheme

چکیده
One important task in current and future communication networks is to define a suitable pricing scheme. It is then preferable to formulate a mathematical model, so that parameters will be optimized and important properties such as fairness or truthful anticipated load revelation (or incentive compatibility) will be verified. In this paper we study a simple and promising scheme called the cumulus pricing scheme, which can address service differentiation and scalability among other issues. Based on a mathematical model, we determine values for optimizing the provider s revenue, which happens under the constraint that each user has an incentive to reveal its anticipated load. This has led to a small variation of the initial model from the literature as in the modelling, cumulus points are translated into financial terms, and measurements induce a cost as well. 2004 Elsevier B.V. The Cumulus Pricing Scheme and its Integration into a Generic and Modular Internet Charging System for Differentiated Services
Pricing and charging are the most important management functionalities future commercial networks need to offer. Since the Internet is on the move to provide differentiated services, for the backbone based on the Differentiated Services Architecture (DiffServ), suitable and scalable management mechanisms are required. Based on a new view of pricing, considered as important management informatio...

In the context of the rapidly increasing commercialization of the Internet, the design of suitable pricing models for packet-based networks becomes a necessity for offering approaches for financially-driven sharing of global resources between multiple customers with varying requirements. Addressing such differentiated services both from a customer and a provider point of view has lead to the Cu...
متن کاملA Simulation Model for the Cumulus Pricing Scheme
The Cumulus Pricing Scheme (CPS) determines an important management functionality of commercial networks in future and it is the only approach known so far defining a clear relation between different time-scales of accounting periods, measurement periods, and charging periods. Prices in this scheme are based on flat fees and hence predictable and transparent. CPS is backed by the design and imp...

The question of how to provide Quality of Service (QoS) has turned out to be of central importance for designing the Internet services of the future and is intimately linked with the problem of how to charge for QoS. Technically, the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture for Internet backbones offers a suitable technology support, whereas appropriate and technically feasible pricing s...
